[REVIEW] Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

Rating: 4.5/5

THOUGHTS…

When I first opened up the first few pages of this book, I immediately became all butterflies and anticipation because I absolutely love the world that Cassandra Clare has created and it was a joy being able to enter it again.

The rest of my post will include SPOILERS, but I try to stray away from being too specific in this review (I don’t include character names or names of events that take place in the book) so if you have not yet read Lord of Shadows, I suggest that you close out right now and finish the book before I give anything away that you may have not wanted to know quite yet – or stay and then read the book anyways!

  • “PRAISE”: The fact that Cassandra Clare (being as popular she is), decided to shed light on the fact that coming out to someone as Transgender is a very hard thing and leaves the person very vulnerable, especially to someone they trust. The fact that Clare decided to have a trans character in her book was a BIG deal, it was amazing and I almost cried because I have never read another “mainstream” book series or seen an author bring in a trans character to their work.
  • “OKAY WHAT”: Only Clare could throw off her entire audience by not killing off one character at the VERY END, but no, she decided to kill off TWO and my heart was practically ripped out of my chest by Clare’s words. Clare, (in my opinion) is extremely great at leaving her readers on a cliff hanger and the sequel to the Dark Artifices, was no different and in fact, may have been her best yet.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the latest installment to the series and highly recommend. The reason I rated it a 4.5 out of 5 was simply because of the last minute character deaths that no one could have seen coming, but even those were extremely well written and was a great idea to get the reader to want more, essentially buying the next book when it comes out (I will be FIRST in line for that one).  Everything else in the book you will have to find out for yourself, so many things happen and the character’s grow so much. You will find yourself in Faerie, Cornwall, and even in Alicante (for a little while at least) and meet a few new characters that you may despise and some characters you already know who you may grow to like a little more than before. “Ave atque vale” (Hail and farewell) fellow Shadowhunters!

P.S. The current book I’m reading is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, so look out for the next book review – it should be coming up soon!

Stay lovely! xx
